Role Description
We are looking for an experienced and proactive Payroll Accounting Team Leader to lead payroll operations and ensure accurate, timely, compliant, and high-quality accounting service delivery. This role is responsible for overseeing payroll related accounting activities, driving process improvements, and ensuring payroll related accounting processes are executed in line with internal policies, legal requirements, and service standards.
The ideal candidate combines strong leadership with solid knowledge of payroll-related accounting processes, operational excellence, and a continuous improvement mindset.
Your tasks:
- Lead, coach, and develop the payroll operations team to ensure high performance and service quality
- Oversee payroll processes to ensure accurate and timely payroll accounting execution
- Ensure payroll accounting activities are performed in compliance with internal policies, local legal regulations, tax requirements, and internal controls
- Support business continuity by managing team workload distribution and ensuring seamless daily operations
- Maintain, review, and optimize payroll accounting processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and compliance
- Drive standardization, digitalization, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Support the onboarding of new entities or expanded payroll accounting services by helping set up processes, systems, documentation, and training
- Provide hands-on support for onboarding new team members and ensuring smooth integration into the team
- Coordinate and monitor payroll-related internal controls, documentation, and review activities
- Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders such as HR, Tax, Treasury, FP&A, and external payroll providers
- Analyze payroll data, identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities, and prepare reports, KPIs, and management summaries
- Ensure timely and effective resolution of potential payroll accounting issues while maintaining a high level of confidentiality and service quality
- Demonstrate flexibility and agility in responding to changing business needs, priorities, and operational challenges
- Translate payroll-related business needs into actionable plans and drive execution to meet targets
- Further tasks not involved in this Job Description that the immediate leader/manager assigns verbally or in writing
Your profile:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting
- Several years of relevant professional experience in shared services, or a related area
- Initial or proven people leadership experience
- Good understanding of:
- payroll accounting principles
- payroll controls and compliance requirements
- employee data handling and confidentiality requirements
- Fluent English AND Hungarian knowledge
